Email communication is an important method of reaching our donors and listeners on a regular basis. Our audience who prefers email will receive messages, information and updates from K-LOVE/Air1 seamlessly and reliably. The Email Marketing Administrator role is extremely critical when it comes to the day-to-day operations around email communication. Your job is equivalent to an airport traffic controller pertaining to workflows, systems and duties related to subscription-based email campaigns. You will uphold high standards of excellence and enjoy the challenges related to this discipline. Key goals are to deliver top-notch email communications, improve conversions, increase engagement, and grow the email communication channel.


This is what you will be doing:

  • Ensure that email content upholds the EMF mission and core values and adheres to the K-LOVE and/or Air1 brand identity. Initiates and executes creative opportunities to further promote the brand objectives.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our target demographic and the competitive landscape. Create and manage effective email segmentation strategies, campaigns and test methodologies.
  • Own the day-to-day execution of email campaigns, including segmentation, content development, QA, and deployment. Work closely with email content creators and operational stakeholders in departments including but not limited to Programming, Marketing, Donor Communications, Data Science, Digital Media, Listener Services and IT.
  • Assist in developing email strategies to improve the existing email campaigns as well as propose new strategies
  • Help to develop, design and maintain email marketing themes. Point of contact for timely and accurate deployment of email campaigns. Create and modify email templates requiring HTML and CSS coding.
  • An advocate of quality assurance. Work very closely with content contributors, reviewers and approvers to ensure quality standards are upheld.
  • Monitor comparative digital activities (web, socials, etc.) and recommend appropriate responses.  
  • Track and report results of email campaigns. Analyze, monitor and communicate performance of email initiatives to stakeholders.
  • Proficient and adept administrator user of EMF’s marketing automation platform.   As the power user, be able to establish workflows and procedures related to email communication. Perform marketing automation platform tasks such as user profiles and system settings.
  • Manage and enhance the marketing automation platform to optimize segmentation, campaign execution, lead scoring & nurturing.
  • Subject matter expert for inbound marketing campaigns.
  • Develop and implement data-driven audience segmentation strategy and lead scoring programs.
  • Develop, manage and deploy a comprehensive email testing strategy for optimal delivery times, messaging, offers and personalization using disciplined multivariate testing methodology.
  • Project management responsibilities pertaining to email marketing campaigns from brief to deployment.
  • Manage and update the email marketing calendar to ensure that all plans are in conjunction with other efforts and deadlines.
  • Develop data cleanse and normalization programs. Maintain and ensure high levels of data hygiene and integrity. Run data quality improvement projects, as needed.
  • Work with cross functional teams to develop and advance email tools and software.
  • Coordination and management of internal reviews, approvals process and ensure all edits are communicated clearly to the campaign stakeholders.
  • Monitor and minimize unsubscribes, bounce rates, complaints and ensure that K-LOVE/Air1 comply fully with CAN-SPAM regulations. Serve as the EMF expert on email regulations.
  • Ensure that EMF employs email marketing best practices.
  • Works independently under minimal supervision.
  • Integral part of the digital content team in maintaining existing processes and workflows, and as opportunities arise, is an active participant with implementing improvements
  • Contribute to a team effort by completing other assignments and serving on project teams as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Here's what we are looking for:

  • Minimum 2-3 years B2C email marketing experience including hands-on duties.
  • Experience working with enterprise-level marketing automation software such as Marketo, Salesforce, MailChimp, Oracle Eloqua.
  • Solid understanding of email delivery and deliverability issues.
  • Solid understanding of email campaign performance metrics.
  • Familiarity with marketing principles, such as web advertising, direct response marketing and performance analysis.
  • Hands on experience with digital analytics such as Google Analytics, KISSmetrics or Omniture.
  • Have a passion for all things digital and desire to learn the latest email marketing trends and technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including grammatical and editing skills.
  • Web savvy – can use PC and Mac tools and related software. Working knowledge and proven use of basic HTML. CSS knowledge is desired. Has experience with complicated systems implementations, enjoys use-case analysis and is comfortable interfacing directly with technical team members when necessary.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or combination of education/training with relevant experience required.
