Our Field Technicians are on the road a lot traveling from site to site supporting our Engineering Department by working on RF, IP, and audio equipment used at EMF signal sites around the region. This role provides support to the Regional Field Engineers by troubleshooting problems in the field as well as performing field proofs on signals, equipment maintenance and installation, and ensuring proper operation of signals.  

Responsibilities

  • Work at EMF radio sites performing assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of broadcast equipment (such as audio processors, modulation monitors and transmitters) used in radio broadcasting, ensuring programs are broadcast to EMF’s high standard of quality.
  • Install equipment in racks; wire, program, and test the equipment and completed racks.
  • Perform FCC compliance tests including RF Proof of Performance, RFR, and other studies evaluating the proper operation of broadcast equipment and stations. Properly document the results of these tests and submit formal reports as required.
  • Assist with station maintenance and construction.
  • Assist with station log completion, annual inspections, and other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Develop and validate written technical documentation of processes and procedures, adhering to EMF documentation standards, as required and directed.
  • Assist with troubleshooting over the phone or in person.
  • Perform work on non-broadcast equipment (such as electrical generators, air conditioning units, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, etc.) as conditions dictate.
  • Travel to remote sites to perform installations or repairs as assigned.
  • Extensive travel is required for this position.

Qualifications

 

Experience and Expertise

  • 3-5 years’ experience in broadcast equipment assembly, diagnosing and repairing required.
  • Knowledge to build, modify, and repair broadcast equipment to the discrete component level.
  • Ability to use test equipment such as spectrum analyzers and safely use basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to solder and desolder electronic components industry
  • Possess comprehensive communication and technical writing skills with the ability to read and interpret technical documents, such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before customers/listeners or other team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to read component color codes and data sheets; read wire and circuit diagrams; read and develop logic truth tables; and add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and complex numbers.
  • Proficient in MS Office products and other common software. Ability to develop Excel spreadsheets with complex logic expressions.
  • Understanding of applicable FCC rules and regulations.

 

Employment Requirements

  • Must pass a pre-employment reference screen.
  • Proof of legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Proof of a valid drivers’ license.
  • Candidates currently residing in the western region, with close access to an airport preferred.

 

Position Specifics:

Hourly Rate:  $20/hr

Hours:  Full time with on-call

Extensive travel (in the western region)
