Overview

Reporting to the Vice President of Programming Operations, the Newsroom Manager oversees day to day logistical operations of the EMF newsroom. This would include ensuring that day to day shifts are covered, newsroom equipment needs are maintained, provide direction to newsroom staff on local news breakaways as needed. During times of national crisis, the Newsroom Manager would assign anchor talent to deliver network branded newscasts. Additionally, this role requires consistent collaboration with EMF’s Public Affairs Content Manager, News Feature & Digital Content Manager and Manager of Traffic & Board Operations in performing various duties, some of which are outlined below.

 

Here's some of what you will be doing:

  • Responsible to ensure day to day scheduling of Newsroom participation.
  • Assist the VP of Programming Operations with planning and implementation for Newsroom, with a focus on goals, timelines, budgets, communication, results tracking, and celebration.
  • Formulate and organize training for new hires.
  • Perform and provide direction on needed local news breakaways as needed and perform air checking reviews for existing anchors of their local news breakaways once completed.
  • Fulfill all ADP approval requirements for News Team Members.
  • Communicate with VP of Programming Operations on Newsroom equipment needs.
  • Provide insight to VP of Programming Operations on staffing working relationships and issues as needed.
  • Keep consistent communication with News Feature & Digital Content Manager in regards to team members participation in providing content for digital news platforms.
  • Keep consistent communication with Manager of Traffic & Board Operations in the areas of hiring, training, and performance of dual role (Newsroom & Master Control) teammates.
  • As needed work in coordination with the Public Affairs Content Manager (PACM), to help schedule local and network public affair segments to prepare for broadcast.

Here's some experience we are seeking: 

  • Bachelors’ Degree, or combination of education/training with relevant experience.
  • 3-5 years in leadership role plus related experience in the broadcast & digital news industry and/or training; or equivalent combination and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively write and deliver on-air self-generated copy for public affairs programming and news segments.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep pace with flexible newsroom environment.
  • Strong computer and desktop audio editing skills.
  • A collaborative and flexible style, with strong service mentality. Need to be a team player.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop sincere business/ministry relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
