As the Regional Engineering Manager, you'll oversee the operation and maintenance of K-LOVE's radio broadcasting facilities and satellite uplinks across your designated region. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, you'll ensure compliance with FCC regulations while driving excellence in our broadcasting services. **This position will support our Southeastern tower sites; therefore, only candidates who reside in the Southeastern region of the United States will be considered.**

 

Here's some of what you will be doing:

  • Ensure K-LOVE’s radio programs are broadcast on time to the highest possible level of quality by providing technical and staff leadership to a team of broadcast engineers and technicians chartered with installing, testing, operating, maintaining, and repairing broadcast equipment.
  • Establish targets and measures that adequately reflect Engineering objectives. Communicate objectives to staff, balancing team and individual responsibilities and productivity. Develop, implement, and monitor supporting budgets.
  • Plan and manage all phases of engineering projects for on-air broadcasts. Establish and communicate procedures and standards for operation and maintenance of transmitter equipment including testing of transmitter equipment, performance of preventative maintenance, and operation of equipment during tests of the Emergency Alert System.
  • Continually evaluate and make recommendations for process and technical improvements through researching, designing, and developing new technologies and methodologies. Develop, plan, and prepare schematic drawings designed to modify and improve existing transmitter equipment.
  • Direct and coordinate equipment modification activities preventing interruptions in transmitting operations.
  • Ensures highest level of productivity through the pairing of projects and staff and preparation of work schedules.
  • Develops staff by evaluating performance, providing coaching, training and mentoring opportunities in order to maximize staff performance and professional growth.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of FCC rules and regulations and ensure department and all equipment within area of responsibility is operating safely and legally
  • Serves as technical advisor and expert for equipment and network related outages. Proactively resolve technical problems and issues.  Diagnose, or assist in diagnosing, causes of transmitter malfunctions and repairs.  At times, perform system design, installation, maintenance and repairs to microwave and satellite uplink and downlink equipment.
  • Partner and communicate with, and at times request work from, engineers (including contract engineers) in other cities and states to accomplish objectives and tasks
  • Participates in on-call rotation, assuming responsibility for repairs or the arrangement of repairs during on-call period
  • Occasionally make trips to remote sites to perform installations or repairs as required.  The length of these trips varies depending on the specific needs.

Here's some experience we are seeking: 

  • Master’s degree or equivalent
  • SBE Certification
  • 4 - 10+ years’ experience troubleshooting and repairing failures in broadcast electronic equipment, or similar relevant experience
  • Experience leading and managing engineering staff, with demonstrated ability to motivate and build morale in a team environment
  • Staff management experience to include staff planning, recruitment, management, coaching, performance management and evaluation
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of the components necessary to a broadcast air-chain.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of satellite technology and radio frequency emissions
  • Project management experience; Proven ability to plan, organize, lead and direct projects
  • Proven ability to deal with multiple, simultaneous problems in a systematic, logical manner
  • Ability to read and understand electronic schematics, electrical drawings, and construction drawings
  • Proficiency with MS Office products and other common software (internet browsers, etc.) A collaborative and flexible style, with strong service mentality. Need to be seen as a team player
