As a cornerstone of our network operations, the Senior Network Engineer will lead the charge in architecting and maintaining resilient, high-performance communication systems—spanning both terrestrial and satellite networks. This role demands deep technical acumen and a strategic mindset to design and support complex infrastructure that keeps our organization securely connected. Collaborating closely with the Network & Transport Infrastructure Manager and a team of skilled professionals, you’ll ensure our network remains robust, secure, and future-ready.
Here's some of what you will be doing:
- Network Design & Implementation:
- Design, implement, and maintain complex network infrastructure solutions, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, data center networks, and satellite communication systems.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of network upgrades, expansions, and new satellite ground station installations.
- Configure and troubleshoot advanced network devices and protocols (e.g., routing protocols, VLANs, QoS, security protocols).
- Satellite System Operations:
- Monitor and maintain the performance of satellite uplinks, downlinks, and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve satellite communication issues.
- Conduct routine system checks and preventative maintenance.
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and testing of new satellite equipment.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for equipment installation and upgrades.
- Ensure proper installation and commissioning of VSAT sites.
- Documentation:
- Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including physical and logical network diagrams, configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and satellite ground station operational procedures.
- Publish technical documentation to clearly explain the operation and function of implemented network infrastructure solutions.
- Network Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
- Monitor network performance across terrestrial and satellite links, proactively identify and resolve complex network issues.
- Analyze network traffic and identify potential performance bottlenecks.
- Implement and maintain network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Security:
- Implement and maintain robust network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access control lists, across both terrestrial and satellite networks.
- Ensure network security compliance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Technical Expertise:
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, routing protocols, switching protocols, MPLS, VPNs).
- Display strong experience with Cisco routers and switches (e.g., Catalyst, Nexus).
- Experience with network security technologies (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems).
- Advanced knowledge of satellite communication protocols and standards (e.g., DVB-S2, DVB-S2X).
- Experience with satellite network management systems and control centers.
- Strong understanding of RF principles and satellite propagation.
- Experience with network automation and orchestration tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) is a plus.
Here's some experience we are seeking:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- Industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, satellite communication certifications) preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in network engineering or a related field, with a strong preference for experience in both terrestrial and satellite network environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches (e.g., Catalyst, Nexus).
- In-depth knowledge of routing protocols (e.g., EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS).
- Experience with network security technologies (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection/ prevention systems).
- Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs).
- Advanced knowledge of satellite communication protocols and standards (e.g., DVB-S2, DVB-S2X).
- Experience with satellite network management systems and control centers.
- Strong understanding of RF principles and satellite propagation.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) is a plus.
