Overview

Reporting to the Vice President of Publishing, the Managing Editor is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end production process for the Ministry’s book projects—including adult, Gen Z, and kids titles. This position requires a unique blend of editorial expertise, project management skill, and publishing operations knowledge. Acting as the primary liaison with Forefront Books and internal stakeholders, the Managing Editor ensures that all publishing efforts reflect the Ministry’s mission, meet production timelines, and maintain high editorial and design standards.

This is a role in Franklin, TN.

 

Here’s just some of what you will be doing daily…

  • Serve as the day-to-day point of contact with Forefront Books editorial and production teams.
  • Manage design and production schedule for each book, including adult, Gen Z, and kids titles.
  • Track project milestones, monitor deadlines, and support issue resolution to keep schedules on track.
  • Create and route Master Services Agreements (MSAs) and Statements of Work (SOWs) in collaboration with Legal and Forefront.
  • Review editorial edits and proofread materials to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with Ministry standards.
  • Assist with development of companion content and internal writing assignments related to publishing projects.
  • Manage Shopify inventory and coordinate merchandise orders for books.
  • Assist in the acquisitions and research of Gen Z focused projects
  • Coordinate with internal teams such as Marketing, Podcasting, and Creative to ensure publishing content aligns with broader Ministry efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated experience leading editorial projects and managing cross-platform content calendars.
  • Excellent editorial judgment with strong copyediting and storytelling skills.
  • Proven ability to translate complex ideas into accessible, audience-appropriate language.
  • Strong people and relationship building skills. Must be able to partner with various teams to gather, analyze, and disseminate relevant findings.
  • Candidate should be enthusiastic and spirited, collaborative, reliable, self-motivated and have a friendly disposition and a positive attitude.
  • Flexibility with hours and must be available to travel and attend evening showcases and recording sessions as required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop sincere business/Ministry relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
